Diamond J Bakery is a small bakery located in Lougheed, Alberta. Focused on providing quality baking to the community, we have a storefront on Main Street, and also supply deliveries to various communities in the surrounding area.
The People
Jill Herbert is the owner and has been the main baker for the past eight years. In 2026, she hired more employees and is transitioning into the role of manager.
Over the years we have had several dedicated and talented employees. We are very proud of our hard-working employees and the enthusiasm and talent they have for making and selling baked goods. All of our employees share in the many varied responsibilities that come with bakery, and you may seen any of them when you come in.
Suzie Neufeld was hired July 2024, working part-time. She runs Suzie’s Cakes, making all our cakes and cupcakes.
Dawn Riddell was hired May 2026, and is our full-time baker.
Lisa Fehr was hired June 2026 and takes care of our packaging and deliveries.
History:
The Diamond J Bakery first started as only an idea in 2014, when the bakery was first put up for sale. However, the timing just wasn’t right, and it went to someone else.
Fast forward to January 2018. The bakery was once again for sale, and Lloyd Seidel, the previous owner, reached out to Jill, who jumped at the chance. Now equipped with some life experience, and looking to start a career, Jill only needed to find funds and someone to commit to working with her. Her solution? Sell her small herd of cattle, recruit her parents, and hire an employee to join in her adventure.
The only task left was to find a name. After some brainstorming, we settled on the Diamond J, because it has a nice ring to it. (Get it? Diamond? Ring?) Having a brand was important to us, and so going with the ranching definition of brand, created our logo as well. With a lot of hard work and dedication, this venture has turned into a real gem.
Jill took Lloyd’s tried-and-true recipes, beloved by the community, and through trial and error, long days and early mornings, has grown Diamond J Bakery into a thriving business. Over the years, she has implemented the Cookie of the Week, and tried many new specials. We are proud to be a part of Lougheed, and of Flagstaff County. We are very grateful to the faithful customers who return again and again to support us. We look forward to what the future has in store!
